A better quality of life
In 1992, the teaching method The Class Moves! was developed under the leadership of physiotherapist Elise Sijthoff. In 1996, based in her Fysiotherapeutisch Centrum Amsterdam, she established Fysio Educatief. Elise Sijthoff is ultimately responsible for the content and the presentation of Fysio Educatief’s products.
Our mission
Letting people, especially children, experience how they can use their bodies in the most effective way possible for a better quality of life.
Method
The products of Fysio Educatief are commissioned by governments and social organizations in both the Netherlands and abroad. For the development of every product, Fysio Educatief assembles a project team of specialists from different disciplines. Collaboration with leading educational and health institutions, extensive testing in pilot institutions, and scientific research all help to create a safe method with optimal results.
Fysio Educatief aims for 100 percent coverage in schools, and that is why intensive training methods are used. Nearly one quarter of all Dutch primary schools are currently using The Class Moves! Likewise, the authorities of Scotland and Wales have also begun using the method in every primary school. In Germany and Belgium, the method Klasse in Bewegung! is used regionally.
Developments
The method The Class Moves! is now supported by many governments in the fields of education, health, and welfare. Locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, the authorities recognise in this method a unique opportunity to familiarise primary school children with safe and conscious physical activity.
Support from the European Union has made it possible to introduce The Class Moves! in all primary schools in Scotland and Wales. The method has also been launched in Germany: the district of Kreis Heinsberg has introduced the Klasse in Bewegung! method in all of its primary schools. The German version has also been introduced in the German-speaking community of Belgium.
Accent
In 2006, How you move! was developed as a complementary method to The Class Moves! Here the emphasis is on exercise outside of the classroom, especially in the context of the family and leisure time.
How you move! is currently being tested by the University of Amsterdam at several primary schools, in cooperation with the municipality of Amsterdam.
The great success in Wales has led to the establishment of a new version of the programme The Class Moves!. This version was especially adapted for the mentally disabled, and was implemented here in every primary school in 2002.
The Dutch translation of the version for the mentally disabled is now also available for special education in the Netherlands
