Expert opinion
After the launch of The Class Moves! the method received much attention in both the media and at various institutions. There have also been several studies carried out on the effects of The Class Moves! ®. On this page you will find a selection of studies and reports about experiences with this method.
In the bundle of readings, which was compiled for the National Education Exhibition (NOT) in 2001, you can learn about experiences with using the method in the classroom. Click here to download the bundle.
A good evaluation study was performed by the Scottish Health Education Board. It provides insight into both the spread and the effect of the method in primary schools in Scotland.
In 2002, the possibility of launching The Class Moves! ® in all of the primary schools in Northern Ireland was investigated. That led to a publication about this method in the education magazine Inform. Also in 2002, the Stranmillis University College reviewed the training courses for The Class Moves! ®. The method in Scotland and Wales
Between January and August of 2000, The Class Moves! ®, which was then still a pilot programme in Scotland and Wales, was evaluated. Kevin Lowden, Janet Powney, Julia Davidson, and Charlotte James carried out this evaluation on behalf of the Scottish Board for Research in Education.
The evaluation was conducted in 52 classes spread over six schools. The researchers observed students in the classroom during the lessons, and conducted interviews with teachers and the management. They also interviewed the students in groups, and studied the notes that teachers had made.
The conclusions in brief
• The programme has great potential to fit into the existing curricula of schools in Great Britain.
• The method is available for all age groups.
• For optimal use of the method, teachers should follow a brief training course.
• In the schools examined, the programme is perceived by teachers and students as innovative, interesting, and enjoyable.
• The Class Moves! ® is easy to integrate into the educational programme in subjects such as biology, drama, physics, chemistry, and gymnastics.
• Teachers and students experience positive effects in terms of concentration levels and the behaviour of students in the classroom.
